Here's what happened to my sister's car, while it was stopped at a light and the person behind her was on a cell phone.

She wasn't driving it at the time, it was actually being driven by a mechanic who had just fixed her brakes and was taking it out for a test drive. He was stopped at a light, and in the rear view mirror he sees some 17 year old girl in a Ford Explorer talking on her cell phone and completely oblivious that traffic had stopped. You can get the full story here and here. Yes, it's a complete write-off.
With the help of Lex, (Secret Identity: Complain About Everything Girl), I was able to discover my own super power:
Changes topics at the speed of sound......
Able to maintain a dozen story lines at the same time.....
Spreading conversational entropy wherever she goes....
It's a bird! it's a plane! It's....
Non-Sequiter Girl!
And her Super Twin, Green Non-Sequiter Girl! And their sidekick, Vicky Voodoo!
So anyway, what was I saying? Oh right......
Now that Christmas has past, I can show you what I knit my sister for her present:
It's a scarf where the cable pattern creates x's and o's, so whoever wears it is wrapped in hugs and kisses. It's called the Besotted Scarf, a pattern I pulled from the Hello Yarn site. It's a great pattern if you have a yarn that you really want to use, since you basically just pick the right needles to match the yarn weight, and go for it. I used Manos del Uruguay Cotton Stria in colour number 203, a mossy green that is kettle dyed by hand, so it has a "marbleized, subtley striated effect", therefore, no dye lots, each skein is different. But I was able to buy three that were pretty close, and you can't tell where one starts and the other ends. I used #7 needles; I probably could have gone smaller, but I'm a rather tense knitter, and I like the depth of the cables from the looser knit. Here's my sister wearing her new scarf at Christmas:
She looks pretty pleased, eh? She really deserves to be showered with hugs and kisses, she flew out from Vancouver a couple days after I had my c-section, and really took great care of me. There were others who were also trying to take care of me, but I have a rather independent personality, and it took another Aries from the same gene pool to get me to stop trying to control things and admit I needed a lot of help. Love you, Beck!
The really funny thing is, she got me another knitting project for Christmas. Check out the Cap'puccino below. This is funny, cuz she used to be a frappuccino addict (once an addict, tho....). It's got the yarn, needles and pattern to make a cute little cap. When I finish my current project, I'll start on that, maybe I'll need a cap next winter, if we ever have winter again.....
Back to Christmas, I also got a cool little row counter from my other sister, Torie, which was very useful until I left it out by mistake when all the kids came over for Christmas dinner. Seems the little clicking noise it makes and the numbers rolling by are just too tempting for little hands. I found it at the end of the night reset to zero. Great.
I also bought myself a knitting desk calendar that has a new pattern every day of the year. So far, however, I haven't seen anything I would want to knit, but February looks promising.
Lil'ReRe got his first mail today - a post card from Auntie Torie from Dawson City. Which he promptly put in his mouth. In true Stevens' fashion, the postcard is of a scenic vista, the most important part being the rock slide in the upper corner that Auntie Torie was working on. If it came from Papa Stevens, it would have been a loggin' truck or a sawmill.
Auntie Torie is now in camp, working for an unnamed company doing unnamed work with an unnamed very very very hard substance. What I don't understand is why we get Kona swag from Uncle Matt for Christmas, I bring back gifts from overseas, but I've never gotten anything icy from Torie. Share the wealth!
